Yup. Smart move, considering as they've got the money to spend. Hell of a waste, but the objective is survival and right now there's a crosshair painted on their ship. The ship they're on right now is probably most valuable to them as a distraction that pursuers can be induced to chase AWAY from them.

Those guys pointing the ship straight back at the one world our protagonists most want to avoid indicates the worst. They knew exactly what the ship was, and besides may have been working for someone who promised to pay them because they knew exactly who was buying it. They compromised the shipboard AI and there's no way to tell if it's completely free of their malware now (I would bet against it personally). They may have even planted a beacon on it somewhere.

Getting a freighter and heading slowly away from the war zone isn't a stupid plan; but it looks like the first try didn't get very far before the screwup.

They spent too much money and it flagged them more than their races did I would bet. A bit of research would probably turn up their societies mutual annihilation.

Yea, they tried to make good and failed. Should have bought an old junker.

Best plan: start small. Buy secondhand directly from the former owner without involving a dealer or shipyard if possible. Don't change the name of the ship and if you can manage the purchase without changing its registration (like buying all the shares of the corporation that owns it or something) do that. If you don't want people following your track, use a boat small enough to not make much of a 'wake'. You can trade up later.

And invest in more than one really good lifeboat with their own tunnel drives, so you can get to one no matter where the boarders are. The Ominous Gale is very useful as a pocket fighter and has been their makeshift lifeboat twice now, but after that fight with "pirates" somebody knows what it is and who's in it. It's probably already too hot to show its nose in public.

No matter what they do, as the only known surviving members of their respective species its going to be hard for them to be inconspicuous. And can you imagine the money-laundering logistics for 'the pooled liquid capital of two former Kardashev type-2 civilizations?'

they need to scuttle it as they leave. if it shows up to its destination the computer logs will show that they left at X coordinates and flew that-a-way...also they will have the deaths of 5 sophonts to explain. if the ship just disappears, well space is a dangerous place...

Happy 200

That would have to feel bad, having just killed to defend your home, and having to give it up.
